- This is common with Netscape. The transfer speed reported by
- Netscape is averaged over a period of time and is only accurate over a
- long period of time. 1.3/1.4k/sec sounds like a connection speed of
- 14400 with error control off.

- 2.8k/sec sounds like a connection speed of 28800 with error control
- off.

- You contradict yourself here. You say USR tells you to turn off v.42
- (error control) which you say you will try and then you say you
- already have error control turned off. You should always have v.42
- error control turned on as it will give you faster transfer speeds
- because it strips the start/stop bits from each byte of data. You
- should also use v.42bis compression as it will at least double the
- speed of transfer of the text portion of Web pages.
-
- An excellent page to test transfer rates when setting v.42/v.42bis
- on and off is; http://super.zippo.com/newscr.txt This a 470k text
- only Web page. At 14400 using v.42/v.42bis your transfer rate should
- be 3.6k/sec
